Words I Needed in a Way I Could Hear

Often when I pray for someone in a hard situation I ask God to speak to them in a way they can hear. In order for each of us to understand anything it must be presented to us in a way that we can understand. The ability to communicate in a way an individual understands is one characteristic of an effective teacher.

Recently God did this for me. In the midst of our ongoing hard situation, God spoke to me in a way I could hear. The message was exactly what I need in this moment.

I was talking with my mentor about all that is going on. As always, she gave me lots of encouragement, love, and biblical advice. I gobbled it up, and by that I mean I wrote it all done so I could review it and pray over it as often as I liked. I felt heard, understood, and strengthened.

She ended our phone call with prayer. She prayed something like this, “God, You are saying to Brenda, ‘I’ve got this. I know exactly what I’m doing.’”

Something in those words gives me immense peace in the midst of a time when no one has answers for us.

Something in those words, “I know exactly what I’m doing”, helps me turn off my worry and sleep peacefully all night. I awake rested and not feeling like a semi truck ran over me like I have often felt these past few weeks.

God’s got us and He knows what He’s doing. He is intimately involved with every part of our lives. After I pray, there’s nothing else for me to do but trust Him and rest. No amount of worry or stress is going to help anything or anyone.

Throughout the Bible God is telling us, “I’ve got this. I know exactly what I’m doing.” We just celebrated Easter. The Easter story is full of examples of God showing us He’s got this and He knows exactly what He’s doing.

  • The Son of God crucified.
  • The stone rolled away from the tomb.
  • The empty tomb.
  • The risen Savior.
  • The ascended Savior.
  • The sending of the Holy Spirit to live in each believer.
  • Regular people become followers of Jesus, show the love of Jesus to the world, share the Gospel so more and more people come to Christ.

All of these plus infinitely more is God telling us, “I’ve got this. I know exactly what I’m doing.”

It’s hard for us to make sense of each of these events apart from God’s master plan. But that doesn’t change the reality that God is working and that He’s got this. In John 5:17 (NLT) Jesus tells us so, “My Father is always working, and so am I.”

I don’t know what hard situation you are in right now or what situation will present itself soon and without warning, but when it does, give it to God, rest in His presence, and let Him comfort you. He has you. He knows exactly what He’s doing.
