The Life God Had for Me Today

Today did not go as planned. I started my day with a tidy to-do list. It wasn’t overly ambitious but I would have definitely felt a certain satisfaction had I completed it.

But then. . .

The phone rang. . .and my to-do list went bye-bye.

I wasn’t happy about it. I spent a couple of hours changing gears and then I told God I needed an attitude adjustment. He worked on me and I finally came to His senses.

After my focus switched from me to God, I realized the truth in John Lennon’s quote, “Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.” To me the “life” in this quote is the unexpected, even what we call interruptions. As I thought about my day I realized once more I am not in control. I must hold my plans for each day loosely. I must listen when God whispers (or sometimes calls) a new to-do list in my ear. I need to lay down my plan and pick up His. This is the “life” He has for me.

I also realized the way God changed my plans was His original plan for my day. It was so much better than my plan. I had the opportunity to bless others in a way I would not have done otherwise.

I hate I still struggle with loosely holding my plans. I hate that I don’t trust God more readily. But today I learned one more time,

God has me.

God is always working in my life.

God will give me what I need when I need it.

God is not holding out on me.

God wants me to enjoy each day.

BTW—Why did I use the picture above for this blog? Part of my change of plans was being Gene’s assistant today—I am in a home improvement store. My hair is flat because our hot water heater went out last night and Gene fixed it while I ran his errands. I have since apologized to my sweet husband and the Lord.
