A Few Good Men

I love these good-looking guys. We had a pretty chill Father’s Day. Gene and Caleb are plenty tired from working on Kelsey and Caleb’s new house, so they welcomed a relaxing day. Both guys (actually all three guys) found time for a short nap.

I am honored to be Gene’s wife and Caleb’s mom-in-law. Both guys cherish their families and work hard to take care of us. They are the best. Gene has risen to the occasion plenty of times taking care of me throughout our thirty-two years of marriage. I will be having a simple foot surgery in August so he will have another opportunity to do so!

And Caleb, he’s following right along in Gene’s footsteps. I remember going to the hospital right after The Grand was born. Kelsey had a rough delivery. She needed lots of care for a few days. Caleb was right there caring for her. It was one of the sweetest things I’ve ever witnessed. I am so thankful for him. He takes his role as husband and father seriously.

But one of the highlights on Father’s Day for both Gene and Caleb was the dessert—pudding cake. It’s a simple recipe that is a favorite with the men in the family but not so much with the women. We prefer fudgy frosting on our chocolate cake!

I make a chocolate cake and while it is still warm I poke holes in it with the handle of a wooden spoon. Then I pour pudding over the top. It goes right into the fridge. The guys can’t get enough!

That was our Father’s Day. Now it’s full steam ahead for vacation prep!

*I couldn’t resist the pun especially since Gene is a Marine.
