Things I Want My Girls to Know

You are awesome exactly the way you are.

These pictures show the essence of who you are—who you are in your fiber and who God made you to be.

Happy.

Creative.

Silly.

Loving life.

Loving other people.

Endless possibilities.

Along your journey the world tried to bury the essence of you are. It tried to convince you that you needed to be different, that you were not enough, you must do more, be perfect, and never be content. It happens to all of us. The mixed messages of society telling women we’re—

  • Too tall.
  • Too short.
  • Too heavy.
  • Too thin.
  • Too introverted.
  • Too extroverted.
  • Not popular.
  • Shallow.
  • Think too deeply.
  • A geek.
  • Fill in the negative messages you’ve listened to.

The truth is God made us all differently. He loves us just the way we are because He made us that way—physically, personality, talents, mental, etc.

God delights in you exactly the way you are.

He loves the way Kelsey can carry on a conversation with anyone.

He loves Katie’s tender heart.

He is crazy about the way Kerry thinks deeply.

To my girls—Enjoy being you! Lean in to who you are! No looking back. No looking around. Just live the way God made you to be—what’s in your heart of hearts. God is thrilled with you.

To the other girls reading this—If I were your mom, I’d say the same to you. What is the essence of the little girl in you? What is in the core of you that just feels like “This is me!”?

Think about it. Pray about it. Then live it. Be all you all the time.

You are awesome exactly the way you are. God made you that way. Celebrate it. God does—“He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
