The Thing We Do That Is Us

I had several life-giving events today—

  • I continued my work on the relationship material I will be sharing on August 19.
  • I talked to all the girls.
  • I went for a run.

But helping Gene on the fence outside this afternoon was especially life-giving. I love being outside. I love working on a project with Gene. My part of helping Gene is mostly me standing holding one little thing while he builds or landscapes something amazing. While I hold my one little thing we talk about how the project is going to look so great or how we (again mostly Gene) can make it better.

Don’t let my work gloves fool you—Gene is doing the heavy lifting, the planning, and most of the work. I do what I can to make the project a bit easier by prepping, cleaning up, and making his favorite sugar cookies (I cut the sugar and they are still great!).

Our working together time is a time where we dream dreams together and just be together outdoors. It’s the thing we do that is us.
