My Crazy, Wonderful Life

The past few months when I’ve been asked what I’m up to, I stammer. The person often offers, “Busy with your grandson?” Yes, but he doesn’t take all my time. I come away from those conversations feeling directionless and wondering—What am I doing with my time?!

Then a couple of weeks ago I read this quote in the Magnolia Journal. It is from a younger grandmother such as myself. “My life has been pretty crazy for a long time, or at least it’s looked crazy. I’ve raised three kids, taken care of my elderly mom, and now have 12 grandkids under the age of 6. It has been busy and fast and so good.”*

The details of my life are different, but I feel the same way—“My life has been pretty crazy for a long time. . .It has been busy and fast and so good.”

In the past two years we doubled the size of our family by adding two more son-in-laws and a grandson. Two of our daughters do not live near us so we often travel to see them. We love being a part of our grandson’s life (and his mom and dad’s too!). I’m writing, hosting people for a couple of hours or several days. It seems something is always happening or I’m preparing for the next thing to happen. As that younger grandmother said, “My life has been pretty crazy for a long time.”

My life at this stage cannot be quantified. I’m not going to try to answer that question any longer. What have I been up to lately? Whatever crazy, wonderful thing or person God puts in my day.

I took this picture this afternoon in the midst of a crazy, wonderful day. This morning Kelsey and Harvey and I enjoyed a quick shopping time and lunch. Then home to write—or, no, wait—Kerry called and we chatted while I enjoyed the porch swing. Then back to writing. Then I put away Easter decorations. Leftovers for supper.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring!? One thing I know—it will be with the people I love, fulfilling the plan God has for me—however that looks.
