Living My HGTV/Pinterest Dream–For a Little While Today

A couple of weeks ago I asked Gene for a board to make a “Welcome” sign similar to one I found on Pinterest. He pulled out several boards. Each one was unique. One was new wood. One had a rich great grain. He showed me two slim boards he could glue together. Then from the bottom of the pile he pulled out the bench to our old picnic table. Perfect! It is a weathered gray with raised grain from countless days in the rain, snow, and hot sun. A variety of mosses growing on it add extra character. And it has something none of the other boards could possibly have—our memories.

I was determined that today was the day to paint it. After a few minimal chores, I set up my “studio” on the table. I loved painting it while the HGTV show, Home Town, played in the background. It wasn’t an especially creative project but I felt accomplished.

I have more home project ideas than I have time to do. But I’m glad that today I let the laundry wait (last load is in the dryer at 8pm) and did something that refreshed my soul.
