Flowers and Cake!

Summery tablescape and cake. You guessed it. It’s time for my small group to start up after summer break.

Today was all about preparation. This morning I worked on the material for Saturday again. Hey, in school I studied a lot. I need a lot of prep for a big project.

This afternoon I cleaned and baked. Cleaning is usually one of my least favorite things, but today it was kind of fun.

I love summer, but I am always ready for the routine of fall. As I cleaned I got excited about seeing friends on a more regular schedule. I thought about how I will decorate for fall in a couple of weeks. It was refreshing to bring order back to the bookshelves in the living room. They easily become a catchall and high place to put things we don’t want The Grand getting a hold of. I put all that stuff back where it belongs. So nice to see order again.

I took a quick break to search the yard for any flowers that are surviving the draught and worth bringing in the house. These flowers made the cut (pun intended!).

Next it was time to bake this blueberry zucchini cake with lemon buttercream frosting*. It is my favorite cake, after, of course, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I had a few zucchinis in my fridge and fresh blueberries so I couldn’t resist. I love to bake for the people I love. A tiny piece won’t hurt!
